Creative commons is a non-profit organisation that enables the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through free legal tools. They have produced standardized licensing for images and other creative works that work alongside copyright.
By using a CC (creative commons) license creators/owners can distribute their work with less restrictions then are normally associated with full copyright, so instead of ‘full rights reserved’ CC allows for ‘Some rights reserved. They may allow people, for example, to copy and distribute works as long as they are attributed to their creator or copyright owner.
There are different grades of CC licensing allowing owners to choose how their works are distributed and which rights are reserved.
These licensing grades are as follows.

This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon the creators/owners work, even commercially, as long as they are credited for the original creation.
This is the most accommodating of licenses offered.
